Most self taught guitarists develop inefficient or sloppy left hand techniques that can limit their playing. I know I did and my first classical guitar teacher made me start over like a beginner on the basics, and I could already play Classical Gas and thought I was pretty cool. But by employing better technique, I was eventually able to play better, though the path to get there seemed tedious and boring at first.
